CLUBHOUSE PROGRAM – SUFFOLK COUNTY

In mid-2026, the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) awarded New Horizon Counseling Center the only Clubhouse program in Suffolk County. The Clubhouse space and programming are now under development, with an anticipated opening before the end of 2026.

New Horizon Counseling Center’s Clubhouse Program will be a welcoming community for adults who have experienced significant mental health challenges. A Clubhouse is not a clinic or treatment program and does not provide therapy or clinical treatment. Instead, it offers a place to belong, build relationships, develop skills, work toward personal goals, and take an active role in a community where every person has strengths, abilities, talents, and something meaningful to contribute.

The Clubhouse is organized around a “work-ordered day.” Members and staff work side by side to carry out the meaningful work of the Clubhouse, such as welcoming members, preparing meals, supporting outreach, planning activities, completing administrative tasks, and helping the Clubhouse community grow. Participation is voluntary and based on each member’s interests, choices, goals, and readiness.

Members can receive support with employment, education, housing, health and wellness, social connections, community involvement, and other goals that matter to them. The Clubhouse also offers opportunities for social and recreational activities, helps members build confidence and independence, and supports stronger connections within the broader community.

By creating a place where people are needed, valued, and included, the Clubhouse helps reduce isolation and stigma while supporting recovery, purpose, belonging, and improved quality of life. The Clubhouse complements—but does not replace—behavioral health treatment and other community services. It gives members an ongoing community of support, meaningful opportunities to contribute, and practical help in working toward the life they want.
